(Satellite programs)
ISRO built India's first satellite ' Aryabhata', which was launched by Soviet Union on 19 April 1975. In, 1980 Rohini became the first satellite to be sent in orbit by an Indian made launch vehicle SLV-3. And thereafter a no. of satellites placed into their orbits by PSLV and GSLV rockets developed by ISRO.
Some important of those are listed below

Communication satellites

        Some other communication satellites are GSAT(6,10,14,15,16) and INSAT(1A,1B, 1C, 1D, 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D, 2E, 3A, 3B, 3C, 4A).

Navigation satellites

GPS Aided Geo- Augmented Navigation (GAGAN)
       Stability tested in June 2013.

Applications

  • Global seamless navigation for all phases of flight including arrival, departure, oceanic and en route
  • Allow direct routings, multiple approaches resulting in considerable fuel savings to airlines and provide for security enhancements of airports and airspace.
  •  Navigation and safely enhancement in railways, roadways, ships, aircrafts.
  • Geographic data collection
  • Geodynamics
  • Natural resources and land management
  • Location based services, mobile, tourism etc.
Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS)
IRNSS will provide two types of services namely, standard positioning system (SPS), which is provided to all users and restricted services (RS), which is an encrypted service provided only to authorised users. IRNSS service is expected to provide a position accuracy of 20m in the primary service area.

Applications

  • Terrestrial Ariel and marine navigation
  • Disaster management
  • Vehicle tracking and fleet Management
  • Integration with mobile phones
  • Precise timing
  • Mapping and Geodotic data capture
  • Terrestrial navigation aid for hikers and travellers
  • Visual and voice navigation system for drivers
